Ingredients:
- 3 small flour tortilla shells ( I used Mission Zero Net Carbs, shells)
- 9 oz of ground turkey
- 1/4 cup reduced-fat cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup diced tomato
- Shredded lettuce
- 1 tablespoon of burger sauce
Directions:
- In a bowl, combine the ground turkey with 2 tablespoons of ketchup (or your preferred seasoning) to add flavor to the meat.
- Divide the ground turkey into 3 equal portions, approximately 3 oz each.
- Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
- Place one portion of the ground turkey onto the hot skillet, and use a spatula or the back of a spoon to smash and flatten the meat. This creates the smash burger effect. Repeat this step with the remaining portions.
- Cook the meat side down first, allowing it to sear and develop a nice crust for about 2-3 minutes.
- Flip the smashed burgers over and continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes or until they are cooked through.
- While the burgers are cooking, warm the tortilla shells in a separate pan or in the oven according to the package instructions. Keep them warm until ready to use.
- Once the burgers are cooked, place them onto a plate and immediately sprinkle the cheddar cheese over each patty. The residual heat from the burgers will help melt the cheese.
- While the cheese is melting, prepare the toppings by dicing the tomatoes and shredding the lettuce.
- Take one tortilla shell and place a cheese-covered burger patty on it.
- Top the burger patty with diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, ( pickles if you’d like as well) and a drizzle of burger sauce.
- Repeat this process with the remaining tortilla shells and burger patties.
- Serve the smash burger tacos immediately and enjoy!
Feel free to adjust the toppings and measurements according to your preference. Enjoy your delicious smash burger tacos!
